Knee pain and replacement: finding the right next step
When knee pain changes how you walk, climb stairs or get through the day, it is worth finding out why. At AIIMS Sanjivani Hospital, Dr. Kuldeep Singh assesses knee problems and talks through treatment choices with each patient. He performs knee replacements himself, but an operation is not the starting point for everyone.

When should you have your knee checked?
Book an assessment if pain keeps returning, stiffness limits everyday activities, or swelling and reduced movement are not settling.
What happens at the appointment?
The doctor asks about your symptoms, earlier injuries and what activities you find difficult. An examination helps locate the problem. Previous scans or X-rays may be reviewed, and further imaging may be advised if needed.
Bring any existing reports and a list of medicines you take.

Is knee replacement the only option?
No. The right plan depends on the cause of pain, examination, imaging, general health and what matters to you. Non-surgical care may be considered first. If joint damage is advanced and symptoms still seriously limit daily life, Dr. Singh can explain whether knee replacement is an option, along with its risks, benefits and alternatives.
A consultation does not commit you to surgery.
Planning for surgery and recovery
If knee replacement is advised, ask what preparation, hospital care, physiotherapy and follow-up would involve in your case. Recovery is individual; the team should explain the likely timetable and what support you may need at home rather than promise a fixed result.
